Covenant vs. LGBT Friendly:
What's the Difference?

Oasis Covenant Congregations: have completed an intentional process of reflection and education, signed a public affirmation of commitment to LGBT people, participate in programs and actions that advance and fulfill the mission of Oasis/California, and typically provide financial support for Oasis/California's ministry.

  • This process involves approval by the Vestry (governing board) of the congregation.

  • These congregations may appoint a member to the Oasis Board and may also appoint one or more Oasis California Contact People for their parish.

Oasis LGBT-Friendly Congregations: are other congregations in the Episcopal Diocese of California that have self-identified as LGBT-friendly.

  • The rectors/vicars of such congregations have asked that their communities of faith be listed as inclusive, welcoming places.

  • These congregations may appoint one or more Oasis California Contact People for their parish.

Information on becoming an Oasis Congregation is found here.
